DESCRIPTION
Modern Citizen Science approaches can contribute greatly to solutions to the public governance needed for green, social and digital transitions. Living Labs engage citizens in innovation process while succeeding in involving stakeholders to address societal issues, while citizen science can provide a missing piece for citizen-centric knowledge generation aligned with societal needs.
This workshop explores the interlinks between Citizen Science and Living Lab Communities towards joint contributions in support to inclusive engagement and policy support, and it is designed as the mirror event of the 2024 ECSA conference, backed by the MoU between ECSA and ENoLL signed in 2023.

Co-Funder of the Library Living Lab.Fernando Vilariño is Associate Director at the Computer Vision Center and Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science UAB in Barcelona, Spain, where he gives lectures about Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Multimedia Systems. His research has been linked to different areas of Computer Vision, and Artificial Intelligence with especial attention to Medical Imaging, fieldwork in which he has developed different projects together with paramount hospitals and companies. His work is published in the main Journals and Conferences of the area and he has also contributed to a number of patents in the field. In addition, during the last years, he has participated in the design of different initiatives, both at local and international level, with the aim of developing novel paradigms of digital social innovation.

Member of the ECSA Executive Board With more than 10 years’ experience as innovation management and environmental consultant (air quality, odour pollution at industrial level, waste, wastewater, sustainability and energy), currently I am responsible for international and national grant management for my client portfolio at F. Iniciativas, including all types of industrial and chemical sectors and ICT. My work involves the identification of funding opportunities, proposal alignment and preparation, research and innovation project design and market orientation, as well as integral management once the project is granted, together with my team. I specialize in all H2020 calls for proposals, SME-Instrument, Fast track to innovation, Eurostars, LIFE+, ERA-NET, and related programmes. I am also a H2020 evaluator expert for the Research Executive Agency (Science with and for Society and ERA-NET calls). I have also coordinated a research project on climate and climate change (www.climadat.es/en) with 6 million € budget, funded by “la Caixa†Foundation. Personally, I am passionate of the Responsible Research and Innovation concept (RRI), citizen science and the role of women in science. He currently leads the scientific work on digital governance and public service innovation - in accordance with the priorities and the strategy of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and its Directorate for Digital Transformation and Data. His responsibilities include coordination of the JRC’s research on innovations in public governance; providing scientific support to EU policies on digital transformation, public sector modernisation, and recovery and resilience; and team management.

Creative Co-Director, Bristol Living Lab (KWMC)Martha King is the Creative Co-Director at Knowle West Media Centre (KWMC). She has over 10 year’s experience of producing citizen led participatory arts and digital projects. At KWMC she has developed and delivered co-creation programmes exploring, data ethics, AI, commons-based approaches and citizen sensing. She is co-author on HCI published paper 'A City in Common: A Framework to Foster Technology Innovation from the Bottom up' and co-author of the chapter ‘We Can Make: Co-Creating Knowledge and Products with Local Communities’ in ‘Co-Creation in Theory and Practice Exploring Creativity in the Global North and South’.

Project Manager, UAB-Ot Puy I Baqué is currently working as the Project Manager of the Chair UAB-Cruïlla at the computer science department, UAB. Ot holds a bachelor’s degree in Smart and Sustainable Cities Management, and a Master’s degree in Sustainability Science and Technology at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and the Norges Teknisk-Naturvitenskapelige Universitet - NTNU. Ot has knowledge on the Catalan ecosystem of Living Labs and Open innovation.
