DESCRIPTION

The Living Labs are an indispensable part of the communities since they operate as accelerators of the transition towards greener and more digital cities and areas. Through co-creation processes with the stakeholders and the implementation of new products, tools and services they provide a fertile ground for open innovation within the smart city context.
  • How can the Living Labs support their cities and regions in becoming Green and Digital?
  • How can the Living Labs have a real impact in society by supporting decision and policy making?
These are two of the main questions that the European Commission – ENoLL Joint Working Group Digital sustainability, including Zero pollution answers through its activities. Towards the achievement of the ‘’Flagship 7: Living Labs for green digital solutions and smart zero pollution’’, the JWG addressed some of the major science and technology challenges boosting the green and digital transition of the EU cities.

Through dedicated workshops, experts from air, water and soil sectors discussed and exchange knowledge on how industries and institutions can draw on Living Labs to generate and spread solutions to zero air/water/soil pollution, including digital ones. The outcomes of the discussions were the starting point for defining a set of recommendations to help local and regional authorities to achieve a climate and environment-friendly use of digital solutions to accelerate zero pollution efforts. The attendees of the topic debate will have the opportunity to learn about the ecosystem approach for innovation & cross sectorial integration for zero pollution policies, solutions areas for zero pollution in air, water and soil and ecosystem collaboration measures among others.
